Capoeira Regional

The methodology  now known as Capoeira Regional was founded in 1918 by Mestre Bimba. The methodology consists of the following:

• Ginga

• Admission Exam

• Sequência 

• Cintura Desprezada

• Rhythm of Games

• The movements

• Specialization Courses

RITUALS  AND TRADITIONS:

• Grasp the hands to teach Ginga

• The use of the chair

• Charanga (1 Berimbau and 2 pandeiros-tambourines)

• Quadras (certain type of song pattern)

• Important Berimbau rhythms: São Bento Grande, Banguela and Iúna

• Batizado (cair no aço)

• Festa de Batizado

• Formatura

• Esquenta Banho

CAPOEIRA REGIONAL PRINCIPLES

• Always Ginga

• Always dodge movements

• Play close to your partner all the time

• All movements must have a purpose (of attack and/or defense)

• Keep at least one base on the ground

• Play according to the berimbau rhythm

• Respect defenseless moves 

• Preserve your partner’s physical and moral integrity.
